Conference Call Security

What can be done to maintain security on a conference call?

As with any password driven service, change your security code(s) often.

If any of your conference call participants leave the company, change your security code(s).

When distributing meeting details

  1. Only send to people who need to know and avoid using large distribution lists
  2. Never distribute the moderator security code.  If it must be given to another person to act as a second moderator on a meeting, consider changing the code after the meeting. Call us on 1800 157 313 to change your codes
  3. Don’t store the details in an easily accessible place like a meeting room scheduling system
  4. Don’t send faxes to a hotel where it could be seen by unauthorised people

Other things to be aware of

  1. The meeting details should not be printed and left lying around
  2. Mobile phones, SMS and public wireless internet are not as secure as we would like to think

During the meeting

At the start of the call press *8 to hear a list of participants

Lock your conference call by pressing *7. Be aware that if a participant disconnects, they will not be able to rejoin unless you unlock the call by pressing *7 again. You will know a participant has disconnected as a tone will be heard.
