Conference Call Tips Image

Join a Teleconference Using Skype

Here at HotAir we take sound quality very seriously and are not great fans of Skype being used to join teleconferences. Whilst it can be great for a point to point call, its unpredictable sound quality can impact the whole conference call. However, there are times it must be used. Dialling a telephone number is easy, but entering a security code (PIN) is a bit harder.

Entering your security code

After dialling into the HotAir service, you will need to enter a security code. To do this, please follow the instructions below:

  • Dial the telephone number to join the teleconference
  • Once you hear the welcome greeting, press the round button with the dots that looks like a keypad (shown by the orange arrow below).

  • You will now be able to enter your security code (and control the conference if you are the moderator)

Skype sound quality issues

If your sound quality is poor or you have a long delay, try redialling a few times. If it still does not work, try dialling a different phone number. Normally the best number to dial is our Melbourne number. For security reasons we don't show this on the public website.

Sometimes a Skype connection just doesn't sound good which is of course, the downside of getting something so cheap. If this is the case, you should join the meeting using a regular telephone.

Ask the person who invited you to the meeting for the toll free number in your country.

I can't enter the teleconference security code

If you have followed the previous instructions and it still doesn't work, then poor sound quality may be preventing you from connecting. Often you can't detect the poor sound quality as you dial in but the digital tones our system needs to hear in order to connect you are distorted when Skype is used. Follow the above advice on sound quality.
